PennApps 2019

September 10, 2019

In September of 2019, a friend and I competed at PennApps’ annual hackathon - the largest college hackathon in the country. The project had to be completed in 48 hours. This was our first time using machine learning in a project ever. We created a project that utilizes the StyleGAN machine learning framework with Tensorflow and a custom facial recognition application using OpenCV and Tensorflow. The project goal was to tackle facial recognition bias by generating diverse datasets aided by computer generated human faces. As newcomers to machine learning, we realized the idea was not feasible and generated more bias than it reduced. It was a great learning experience nonetheless. It can be found here. pennapps
